Ⅰ. Visa Requirements and Procedures for China
International students need to apply for a visa at the Chinese embassy or consulate in their home country. For more information about the Chinese embassy or consulate in your country, please refer to the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China: http://www.fmprc.gov.cn/
1) Students who study in China for more than half a year are required to enter China with an X1 visa. After entry with X1 study visa, the visa is valid for 30 days, and residence permit must be applied within 30 days after entry. Students are advised not to enter China too early because you are only eligible to apply for a residence permit after registering at the university.
2) Students who will study in China for less than 180 days will be required to enter China with an X2 visa. The validity period will be indicated on the visa page. From the day of entry ,the maximum stay days is 180 days. Students with X2 visas do not need to apply for residence permits. The X2 visa allows only one round trip to China.
Documents Required for Visa Application:
1) Original valid ordinary passport;
2) Original letter of admission;
3) Original application form for Visa to Study in China (JW201/202 form);
4) Physical examination form for foreigners;
5) Blood test report.
Application Process:
1) Make an appointment for visa application;
2) Go to the Local Chinese embassy or consulate with relevant materials for visa application;
3) Get back your passport and get your visa to China.
Note: Please return the letter of admission and the original JW201/JW202 form. This is an important document for applying for residence permit after coming to China.
Ⅱ. Apply for Residence Permit
After entering China with X1 visa, students should apply for residence permit at least one week in advance at the Entry and Exit Administration Department within 30 days. Documents required include:
1) Original and copy of valid passport and visa;
2) The official letter and the letter of admission, indicating the period of study;
3) Visa application letter (issued by International Cooperation and Exchange Department);
4) Original yellow sheet of Visa Application Form for Study in China (JW201 form or JW202 Form);
5) Fill in the Application Form for Foreigner’s Visa and Residence Permit, and paste a recent two-inch full-face bareheaded color photo with a white background;
6) Temporary residence registration certificate;
7) For applicants who have studied for more than one year and are over 18 years old, the original copy of the Physical Examination Record Verification Certificate for Overseas Personnel issued by the designated institution is required.

Ⅲ. Validity Period of Residence Permit
According to relevant regulations, the stay permit is valid for six months and the residence permit is valid for one year.
Ⅳ. Application Fee for Residence Permit
A residence permit valid for less than one year costs 400 yuan per person.
Ⅴ. Cancellation of Residence Permit
In accordance with the Exit and Entry Administration Law of the People’s Republic of China, aliens who engage in activities inconsistent with the purposes of their stay or residence, or who are in violation of Chinese laws and regulations and therefore unsuitable for their continued stay or residence in China may be ordered to leave the country within a time limit.
